Our Team

DJ Hinton Lawyers was established in 2016 by David Hinton, who has been providing legal assistance to clients in Hervey Bay and Maryborough since 1998 and has worked at some of the region’s leading firms. Our law firm is a family owned and operated firm, with offices located in Hervey Bay and Caloundra. Our principal David Hinton began his legal career in 1989 and was admitted as a solicitor of the Supreme Court of Queensland and High Court of Australia in 1991. He is a member of the Queensland Law Society, and is also a member of the Queensland Family Law Practitioners Association (FLPA) and the Australian Lawyers Alliance Family Law Section.

Our associate solicitor, Meaghan Smyth, practicing from our Caloundra office has been practicing law since 2005 after graduating with a double degree of a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) and a Bachelor of Arts majoring in Psychology. Meaghan has worked predominately in family law in Queensland and for a leading regional firm in Victoria. Meaghan is very experienced in all aspects of family law.

Ally is Meaghan Smyth’s paralegal in our Meridan Plains office. Ally has 5 years’ experience across Conveyancing and Family Law. She understands the importance of compassion and understanding for client’s during an often emotionally turbulent time and is our first point of contact for our Meridan Plains office. In her spare time she enjoys days at the beach and reading.

Beatrix is our Wills and Estates Paralegal. Beatrix has been working with David Hinton for 8 years and during this time has worked in the areas of Family Law, Litigation, Residential and Commercial Conveyancing and Commercial Leasing. Beatrix now works predominantly in the Wills and Estates Department. In her spare time, she loves spending time with her family, entertaining friends on her deck and going to Brisbane.

Piper works in our Hervey Bay office as a legal assistant, working mainly on Safe Custody and drafting Wills and EPAs. Piper has over 4 years of experience working for our firm and is now currently studying a dual degree of Bachelor of Laws (Hons) and Bachelor of Justice at Queensland University of Technology. In her spare time, Piper enjoys time at the beach and spending time with her family when home from uni.

Helen is our Office and Accounts Manager. Helen started working in the legal industry at the age of 17 at Wilson and Copley Solicitors on the Gold Coast. In 1995 Helen followed David to Brisbane and worked as the litigation assistant at KM Splatt and Associates. Prior to settling in Hervey Bay another move was made to Mackay where Helen worked as a paralegal and Accounts Manager at Barron and Allen Solicitors. In late 1997 a final move was made to Hervey Bay. In her spare time, she loves spending time with her family and friends and watching her children play sport.
